2014 Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid Officially on Sale!

As of January 15th, the Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid electric vehicle is officially on sale in California and New York. As time passes, it will be available in other states.

The Honda Accord PHEV is the first gasoline burning vehicle to quality for the California Air Resource Board’s Super Ultra Lo Emissions Vehicle 20 standard. This implies that emissions levels are below 20 milligrams per mile, and is currently the strictest measurement (aside from completely emissions free).

The Accord Plug-in starts at $39,870 and is rated at 115 MPGe. Although it’s electric-only range is listed at 13 miles, it’s combined efficiency rating makes it the most efficient mid-size sedan available on the market today, and even beats out some smaller electric vehicles like the Mitsubishi i-MiEV (rated at 112MPGe combined).

Joining the plug-in hybrid ranks with the Toyota Prius Plug-in, the Fisker Karma, the Ford C-max Energi, the Chevy Volt, later this year the Ford Fusion Energi, and early next year the Cadillac ELR, the Honda Accord Plug-in is part of a movement that gives consumers an unprecedented number of options in terms of choice, brand, technical configurations and all-electric range.

The 2014 Accord Plugin uses a 2 liter Atkinson Cycle engine combined with a 124 kW electric motor. Charge times are less than one hour with a Level 2 setup and around 3 hours to fully charge the battery pack with a 120-volt outlet.
