I had a scary episode the other day where the snow blocked the sensor for the ACC! Things were going fine and then the car suddenly sped up under hard acceleration and I almost hit the guy in front of me! I slammed on the brakes and only then did the car notify me that the sensor was blocked and that ACC and accident warning would not be functional!

I'm not complaining, but it feels to me like the car should have just shut cruise control off if the sensor failed, and had you re-start it knowing that you would be in standard cruise control mode. I suppose it depends on how the sensor failure/blockage is detected, though. This seems like a difficult problem, because how does the system know the sensor is not working properly?

I would say, keep your attention on the road even when ACC is in use, because if it fails, things can get a little interesting.
