Pricing figures were released Monday for the 2014 Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid, which can now be purchased at selected Honda dealerships in California and New York. According to Honda’s official statement, the new Accord Plug-in Hybrid will cost $40,570 for the base version, with $790 destination charge included. A leasing option is also available at the rate of $429 per month.
This makes the 2014 Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid more expensive than other vehicles in the plug-in hybrid class, such as this year’s Chevrolet Volt, Ford Fusion Energi and Toyota Prius models. It is also expensive by several thousands of dollars than the 2013 Honda Accord Touring, the vehicle Honda says the 2014 Accord plug-in was based on in terms of design cues. The Accord Touring, for the sake of comparison, costs $34,420, with $790 destination charge included. Despite the Accord Plug-in Hybrid’s somewhat prohibitive price, it is still noteworthy as the “most fuel-efficient sedan in America”, as claimed by Honda. According to Honda, the new Accord plug-in is rated at an equivalent 115 miles per gallon by the EPA; the EPA, however, has not released any official figures to date. Gasoline fuel economy is claimed to be 47 mpg city and 46 mpg highway.
