    Cold weather and electric miles

The heater just uses a lot of battery energy. Last April when the car was new, we had some nasty freezing rain and lots of defogging. Electric range was about 5 miles that day, but was 14-15 in the summer. Lately it's been as low as 7 miles with the preconditioning broken (Honda server broken...

car stops shifting and can't go over 45mph on freeway

Hey jpharm, I recognize my NHTSA complaint, and posted about the coolant pump on this forum about the same time. It would be interesting to know the trouble code associated with engine power loss. The dealer should be able to tell you, to print it on the service order. If it's the same code...

car stops shifting and can't go over 45mph on freeway

If the warnings are emission system and engine cooling system, combined with very low power, it sure sounds like the electric coolant pump that acted up twice one day on ours. But there was a specific diagnostic trouble code saying the pump was turning too slowly, and the dealership after a call...

    Battery Range

The shop manual is at techinfo.honda.com, which says: ServiceExpress is American Honda and Honda Canada's service repair information website for independent repair shops and vehicle owners. This information covers all Honda and Acura vehicles from 1990 to current. Subscriptions: 1 Day - $10.00...

    Battery Range

Yes, preconditioning works with any form of being plugged in, or not plugged in. The question was whether battery energy would be used if preconditioning with an L1 charger. I thought I'd read in a footnote on ev.owners.honda.com or a help screen in the iPhone app (or something in the shop...

    Battery Range

Another advantage of an L2 charger is being able to precondition the cabin temperature (including heating some engine coolant if you're heating the cabin) without taking energy from the battery.

    TEMPERATURE GAUGE

No gauge. The manual says it has "Engine temperature near limit" and "Engine temperature too hot" messages, plus a "High temperature, power reduced" message relating to the hybrid power system.

Anybody else have an electric engine coolant pump problem?

Twice yesterday, when using the engine at freeway speeds, the display in the speedometer showed "Engine cooling system problem" and engine power was hugely reduced -- the car would only reluctantly get itself off the road. (Full electric power wasn't available either, but the car was in HV mode...

    Gas mileage

44.5 mpg on a recent trip with no plugging in, preconditioning (air conditioning) using the battery a few times, about 1700 miles at prevailing freeway speeds (with a couple small mountain crossings), about 100 miles city driving, using EV in the city and recharging with HV Charge on the...

    I just got my PHEV!!!

The EV light just means the car is running without the engine. It doesn't mean you're in EV mode. The EV light can be on in HV mode when running electrically or regenerating. It can go out in EV mode, if the engine helps with hard acceleration or freeway speeds. So no EV light and no HV mode...
