Three 2013 Honda Civic variants made their first public appearance at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show, proving once again how determined Honda is to make the public forget about its poorly-received 2012 Civic lineup.
The redesigned grille and hood and various design cues owing to the midsize Accord are just the tip of the iceberg for Honda, who has definitely done its part to make the new Civic a vast improvement over the 2012 offerings. Inside the 2013 Honda Civic, some of the standard equipment includes Bluetooth and Pandora Internet radio support and a rear camera. Standard on higher-end trims such as the EX are 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control and a “black honeycomb” mesh grille. But despite these myriad changes and improvements, the new Civic isn’t that much more expensive than last year’s model. A $160 price increase has been applied across the board, making the base LX trim cost $18,955. Other trims include the EX, which carries a $21,605 price tag, the $23,505 Si and the top-of-the-line EX-L, which costs $24,955. A Hybrid trim is also available, with a new grille and loads of safety features such as Forward Crash and Lane Departure warning systems.
The 2014 Honda Accord PHEV was another new car previewed at the L.A. Auto Show. This is Honda’s plug-in hybrid version of its popular midsize sedan, and boasts of EPA estimates of 115 MPGe with a 13-mile EV range. For a point of comparison, the standard Accord hybrid has EPA estimates of 49 mpg city and 45 mpg highway, or 47 mpg combined, numbers fairly close to that of the 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid. The Accord Plug in will be released on January 15, 2013 in California and New York.
